Interesting Truth

23 November 2003 No Comment

I was listening to the Rush song “Resist” that was done acoustically from the “Rush In Rio” DVD. I heard this section and really thought about it as the words came out.

You can surrender without a prayer
But never really pray; pray without surrender
You can fight; fight without ever winning
But never ever win; win without a fight

These words are very true as it applies to the Christian walk. Many people quit things without praying about them to see if God wants then to quit and go onward to something else or stick with the things that they want to quit. Many people pray to God to ask for their needs to be met but prayer in the intimacy of Christ can not be effectively done without surrendering all to him.

Many people fight wars over theological differences that in the long run, destroy more than uplift, divide more than unify, and tear apart than build up. We also see that no one really wins even though both sides do what they believe ‘in God’s name’ thinking they are right and God has told them so. You can go talk to a real champion whether it is in sports, life, or victory over an addiction and every one of them will tell you that in order to be declaired a winner, they fought tooth and nail to defeat the other team, defeat circumstance, or defeat the enemy of addiction that did not want them to win.

Very deep and thought provocative lyrics.
