I was thinking about this verse the other day as I reviewed the many numerous questions I have asked on this blog the past couple off days.
The verse is found in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 which states (NKJV used):
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
I wondered who in these past twenty years, have paraded around as ‘Christians’ who claimed to “having a form of godliness” but through their actions ended up in essence “denying its power”.
The seeker-sensitive movement; the religious right who portrays Jesus as a Republican politician; the word of faith movement; the pentecostals; the Shepherding movement?

Well, to be fair, the last three, the WOF’ers, the Pentecostals and the Shepherding people (who were early Charismatics) did NOT deny the power of God. In fact, they affirmed it. I think most Pentecostals do try to live the life and many WOF’ers do too. The people I met in the Shepherding movement tried too, even the 6 infamous leaders.
