Nigeria 419 Scandals
Being a member in The Blogdom of God alliance, I went and visited a new member today.
I discovered an interesting new blog entitled Anxiety Closet . On this page today was a very interesting article that I really loved entitled I Have Decided That I Am a Hero in Africa which gives a sarcastic (which I really love) and truthful insight to these ever-occuring e-mails where some rich royal ruler in Africa becomes a Christian on his death-bed and decides that it was ‘God’s Will’ to leave this money to Christians like myself and all I have to do is to open up my bank account and allow the royal family to wire transfer money into my account. Yeah right! It’s more like steal the money out of my account. I had to respond to the article by recalling an incident that almost happened to a good friend of mine. My response is listed below:
This is the Nigeria 419 scheme over and over again. I get at least three of these e-mails daily using the same patterns but different names and different underdeveloped nations.
I recently had to talk a friend and prohibit him from allowing his bank account from accepting the ‘wire-transfer’ (aka they take his money). He saw the ten million dollar sum and thought that this was the promised answer in the form of a ‘hundred-fold’ blessing because he had recently sowed a ’seed-faith’ offering to a popular ‘name-it-and-claim-it’ televangelist.
For more information, Googlize the topic ‘nigeria 419 scandals’. Plenty of links are there for viewing. Especially this one.
Another Christian forum I attend has a thread about a Christian woman who fell for this scheme and lost the entire contents of her bank account (she stated at that time was around $800.00 USD) because she really thought that this e-mail was a ‘prophetic confirmation’ of the verse found in Proverbs 13:22 which states “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. ”
If you get these e-mails, discard them.
