Blowing Up The Baseball
Yesterday evening, Grant DePorter, managing partner for the late Chicago Cub’s broadcaster Harry Caray’s restaurant, blew up the famous baseball that Cub’s fan Steve Bartman (unable to be located) robbed from Moises Alou in the NLCS of 2003. Mr. DePorter purchased the ball for $113,824.16 in December, 2003 off an e-bay auction.
The ball was exploded using a specially-created, no-smoke, detonation device designed by a Hollywood special effects artist to destroy the most famous baseball in Chicago sports history into a pile of string and leather remains. All of this done in an attempt to destroy a ‘curse’ the Chicago Cubs feel is on their team for not winning a World Series in 95 years.
