Ex Major League Baseball player Andy Van Slyke, one day after saying he believed Giants slugger Barry Bonds “unequivocally” used steroids to help add muscle mass in recent years, now has told host Rick Barry on San Francisco radio station KNBR on Wednesday night that “Julio Franco is 46 years old. I’ve got to believe he’s on it…”
Franco’s comments after hearing Van Slyke’s comments:
“Tell Andy Van Slyke he’s right — I’m on the best juice there is. I’m juiced up every day, and the name of my juice is Jesus. . . . Next time you talk to him, tell him the steroid I’m on is Jesus of Nazareth.”
Good for Franco for displaying his Faith in Christ. However, I find his analogy of Jesus who is the way, truth, and the life compared to steriods that have contributed to the long term declining health and contributed to the death of certain athletes (Lyle Alzado) for short term human performance results is way off base. I hope Franco, when he stated that “the name of my juice is Jesus”, was not referring to the Vanity Fair report that Michael Jackson gave white wine in a Coke can to the 13-year-old cancer patient at the center of the molestation charges he’s battling. The Vanity Fair report (written by Maureen Orth) claimed that Jackson refers to white wine as “Jesus juice,” and red wine as “Jesus blood,” and usually drinks them out of soda cans so that nobody around him will know he’s consuming alcohol.
