The Real Middle Class Showed America Something Today
After the verdict for the numerous counts against Martha Stewart were announced as ‘Guilty’, one juror was brave enough to tell us something per this article at FoxNews.
My favorite part of the article:
Chappell Hartridge, a 47-year-old computer technician at an insurance company, said he hopes the verdict sends a message to corporations that “they have to abide by the rules and no one’s above the law.”
Amen Mr. Hartridge. It’s been time that the corporations in this country abides by the rules and stop being above the law. However, you will see very shortly on Religious Right Radio, the ‘official Christian perspective’ of this trial per the way they think and want you to believe “God’s viewpoint” is.
Middle class America did show this nation that the corporations and the wealthy in this country should no longer run roughshot, and legally outspend to purchase innocence. However, what will the ‘official Christian perspective’ say?
They will probably say that Martha was screwed because she is a big corporation and Republicans stand up for big corporations and the ‘real’ Christians (per ‘official Christian perspective’ logic) stand up for Republicans therefore ‘real’ Christians to be considered Christian were somehow screwed today in this verdict and must stand up for corporations that are too few dictating the too many and not stand up for the middle class workers oppresed by many of the big businesses.
Why? Because many churches today have leaders who run businesses and end up running the church like their business instead of leading the church like the church the Bible speaks about. Therefore, the church becomes ‘Corporate’ instead of Christian and making ‘Corporate Churches’ instead of Christian Churches.
We need more men like Chappell Hartridge in the church today who are not afraid to tell things like they are in the church and the world and are not afraid of the backlash of the ‘official Christian perspective’ when the truth goes against their personal agendas and ideologies made into ‘thus saith the Lord’ corporate church theologies.
Mr. Hartridge, here is a lyric from the Rush song ‘One Little Victory’ for you:
Celebrate the moment
As it turns into one more
Another chance at victory
Another chance to score
The measure of the moment
In a difference of degree
Just one little victory
A spirit breaking free
One little victory
The greatest act can be
One little victory
And MSNBC had Attorney Roy Black on the Dan Abrams show stating that the juror’s interview showed bias and prejudice towards rich and successful people. No Roy, the real reason why you said this is because you are Rush Limbaugh’s (the ‘official Christian perspective’s unofficial member of the Trinity) attorney and you are trying to claim that everyone is out to ‘witch hunt’ Rush over his prescription drug problems and using this juror’s opinions to try to convince us that the ‘witch hunt’ is present.

I think that in a lot of cases, juries do have a bias in favor of “the little people” and against those who are hugely successful or against large corporations. Look at the court victories that awarded millions of dollars to a coffee-spilling fast-food patron, and those that find a homeowner liable for injuries sustained by a person committing criminal acts on their property. These reflect more on the “victim mentality” that is prevalent in our culture than on a desire to take the powerful down a notch, but I think it says something about both.
That said, I should mention that I support the decision of the jury in the Martha Stewart trial. If she was guilty, she should be punished. My intention is not to defend her or other corporate offenders.
