Gay Book Removed From Library Shelf

27 March 2004 2 Comments

Michael, Tonya, and Olivia Hartsell, along with the children and concerned parents of the school, won a major decision yesterday in their battle to remove the controversial “King and King” book off the shelf per this Wilmington Star article (free subscription required to view.

In an 8-3 decision, the school committee placed the King & King, under lock and key so only adults, including parents and teachers, can check it out. The Hartsells are happy about this decision that children can not get access to the book anymore. One teacher called the book ‘art’. One parent called it ‘diversity’. However, numerous people of high morale like the Rev. James Utley (I know him personally, a wonderful man of God), teacher Audrey Stanley, and concerned parent Lannell Jordan rightfully objected to the book on the homosexuality issue while Ms. Stanley went further to state a interesting and truthful point of:

gay marriage is illegal in North Carolina. She said it’s inappropriate for a school to promote something that violates the law.

The committee’s decision to restrict access to the book is binding unless the parents file an appeal. The Hartsells said they don’t intend to do so. Therefore, the book is permamently removed from children’s access but available to adults. Hallelujah, thank you Jesus for this victory.
