It turns out, per this blog post at World Magazine, that many of the people who are behind the writing, production, and animation of this show are Christian by faith. This is very interesting knowledge. Many ‘pro-family’ groups love to bash this show on their news alerts because they have really exposed and made fun of many ‘mentalities’ commonly portrayed by the people affiliated with the pro-family movement within Christianity.

have you seen the show where homer makes a pledge of a large amount of money to the public tv station so he can see his favorite show that should be on at that time? the producers of the fundraiser on tv that he pledged to show up at his door and ask for the amount in full - but homer doesn’t have the money so he runs away from them to the local church as tells the preacher the problem. The preacher takes him to the airport and put him on a plane to africa to be a missionary - this way nobody that he made that fake pledge to will be able to reach him while “serving the Lord” in Africa.
