Building a Kingdom Above A “Christian Utopia”

28 August 2004 2 Comments

When I was at the Walking the Dogma blog and read the comments to the Who Is Kidding Who? article, I saw one very interesting comment by a person named “Rich-man” who quoted Joshua 5 in his comments. I went to look up Joshua 5 and found this (NKJV Version):

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” 14So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” 15Then the Commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.

After reading this verse in light of the comments posted by “Rich-man”, the thought came to me about the equation of God on our side means that God automatically has to be against anything that is not on my side. I even thought about this in relationship to the Religious Right (Dobson, Robertson, Colson, etc.) and also in relationship to the Religious Left (Jackson, Sharpton, Campolo, etc.) . My friend “Harry Tick” is correct in his ‘newsflash’ in his referenced blog.

God is not on the Republican side.
God is not on the Democrat side.
God is his own side that is not a ’side’ because his love, grace, salvation, etc. transcends and eliminates the sides in the name of Christian brotherhood and unity.

You see, God has called us to fulfill a Great Commission and establish his Kingdom on Earth to obey him, complete his objectives, and fulfill his calling on our lives to reach the world. Not develop a theology wrapped around a certain political agenda where we then expect God to ‘fit in’ and ‘bless us’ and equate that to ‘anointing’. Anointing and blessing does not come from God when we are able to convert our square peg selves into a round rod and fit and conform to the round hole. Anointing and blessing comes down when we choose to put the flesh to death and decide to live and walk in the Holy Spirit to fulfill a Kingdom mandate. Anointing and blessing does not come when we become seeker sensitive and emergent. Anointing and blessing comes when we become SINsitive to the sinful flaws of our human character and begin to impact the surrounding environment around us with God’s love and grace while at the same time deal with these fleshly issues.

Label yourself all you want to
Chase the four winds around your world
Be seeker-sensitive while you Chase God

It may mean a little something to you but in the long run and in the full scope means nothing at all. Build a Kingdom of God, not a political paradise.

    Hello,

    I enjoyed this, thanks!

He came to seek and save the lost coins with no visible image left upon them. They were redeemed, now bearing a living image engraved deep within. These coins, His currency, are being used in the ongoing salvation of men.
He spends us as He wills. “You have not been redeemed by silver or gold, but by the precious blood of the Lamb”.
