What a Reaction! – Andrew Strom

Mr. Strom responds again in this latest newsletter:

What a REACTION!
-Andrew Strom.

I have never seen such a “shaking” caused by any article we
ever published as the one on “WHY I LEFT the PROPHETIC
MOVEMENT”. That week I received over 2000 emails on the
subject – even though my email was malfunctioning for 3 of those
days. I have read as many of them as I could. Very sorry to those
who have not received a reply from me. I do not employ someone
to read my emails – I read them myself. And sometimes I get a
little overwhelmed.

Below is a comment from Chad Taylor about the reaction when
he published that article on his own Prophetic List. After that I will
add a few more comments:

Chad Taylor:
“We received hundreds of responses on my response to the Andrew
Strom article, “Why I left the Prophetic Movement”. Surprisingly
most of the feedback was positive and hopeful although most did
agree change is inevitable. After being a part of this “movement”
since I was saved in 1986 and later corresponded and met Leonard
Ravenhill and many other prophets, I have seen first hand the
evolution of this movement and its pitfalls. I have had to dig out of
some them myself.

“One of the greatest dangers any progression poses is the lack of
humility and willingness to change and grow. I was also surprised
by the defensive posture many took that are either mentioned in
the article or disagree with Andrew Strom. Personally I do not
agree 100% with his article but I do agree 100% that radical
change is fast approaching all of us. So many also emailed us
and expressed the same frustration with the current conferences
etc. and are discouraged and frustrated with the same issues
Andrew addressed. I believe – though some do not want to admit
it, Andrew’s article is already provoking change in those that read
it and those it was written about.

“One reader sent this scripture which is on target with this issue:
“He removed the high places, and broke the images, and cut down
the groves, and broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had
made: for until those days the children of Israel burnt incense to it:
and he called it Nehushtan.”

“The very image that was once used by Moses to bring deliverance
to Israel was now being worshiped and put in a place above the
Lord Himself. If you look closely at the Charismatic or the healing
movement of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s you will see the same trap.
We begin to “worship” the personalities more than we worship God.
This derailed many ministries then and can now if we are not open
to reproof and allow the changes the Lord is bringing to take effect.
Let’s continue to pray for all those in leadership that we strive to be
more like Jesus not so and so and so and so. They are not the
image we are created to reflect. They are simply human beings
that God is using because they are willing to be used. Nothing more.”

ANDREW STROM again:

It has not been the emails that disagree with me or accuse me of
being “divisive”, etc, that bring me to tears. It is the emails from all
over the world that strongly AGREE with me and tell me of other
horrors that they have witnessed themselves. I sat at my computer
last night getting sadder and sadder as I read account after account
of the sickness that has spread around the globe as part of this
movement. -It is actually WORSE than I ever imagined.

I know that Mr Taylor and others are hopeful that the Prophetic can
somehow be “reformed” – and they even see my articles as being
helpful in this process. (ie. Forcing change). But I tell you, I believe
this movement is BEYOND reforming. It has reached the point of
no return. Some slight changes may occur – but they can only be
’surface’ ones really. That is why I felt I had to totally CUT MYSELF
OFF at this time. -It really has become that bad.

We are talking here about a movement where it is encouraged for
people to interact with “Orbs of light” that come hovering down
(-a major prophetic ministry does this) or to pay money for
personal “dream interpretations”. We are talking about a movement
that teaches people how to “visualize” their way into the ‘Third Heaven’
and sometimes holds ‘Presbytery’ days where you can book a half-
hour personal appointment with a prophet for a hefty fee. We are
talking about a movement that majors on ‘manifestations’, “portals”
and weird ‘visitations’. In every way it more closely resembles the
New Age movement than anything Christian. In fact, more and more
I am seeing that this movement is utterly dominated by a spirit of
DIVINATION and fortune-telling. It is sick beyond words. And it’s
prophets are utterly blind. Even now, they rush to hold a huge
‘Visitations’ gathering in Hollywood led by Jill Austin – one of the
most “Divination”-oriented of them all. I am close to tears even now,
just writing about it. It is so awful what this movement has become.
Please STAY AWAY from it, my friends. We are talking about
DEMONIC encounters here. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is
transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if
his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness.”
(2 Cor 11:14-15). We truly are in the Last Days.

Now, Mr Taylor and others like him are quite aware of how bad
things have got. We have all been aware of it for some time. And
yet we felt it was possible to ‘pick out the bones’ – to find the best
and spit out the rest. That is exactly what I used to do. But I
believe the time for that is gone. I want to put out a public call for
Chad Taylor and other discerning leaders to join me in raising up a
new generation of prophets – to publicly stand AGAINST all the
excesses and FOR true REPENTANCE and a PURE PROPHETIC.
The “old” cannot be reformed. And unless God raises up new
prophets in this hour, then all is lost.

So how about it, Mr Taylor? This is an honest call to you, my friend.
We need your help – and many others like you. Only a PURE
prophetic can beget Revival. All of history declares that fact. So will
you stand with us? Will you be part of a ‘new thing’?

We read in Scripture that “Judgement begins at the house of God”
and I am convinced that the ‘House of the prophets’ is to be first.
The shaking has already begun and I am convinced that it is going
to get far worse. Everything that can be shaken will be shaken.
God is putting His house in order. All that is not of Him will fall away.
I believe we are going to see this process go right through the
church – from the top down – until Jesus has a Bride that is truly
“without spot or wrinkle or any such thing.” We live in the most
momentous of times.

God bless you all, my friends.

Kindest regards in Christ,

Andrew Strom.

Mr Strom:

Count me in with the crowd that desires to raise up a new generation of prophets – to publicly stand AGAINST all the excesses and FOR true REPENTANCE and a PURE PROPHETIC. In Leviticus 10: 1-7 we see these verses:

Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke, saying:
“By those who come near Me
I must be regarded as holy;
And before all the people
I must be glorified.”‘

So Aaron held his peace.

Then Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” So they went near and carried them by their tunics out of the camp, as Moses had said. And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons, “Do not uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD has kindled. You shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die, for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Moses.

Yes Mr. Strom, there are some strange fires that are being offered up to God that He views as profane in the ’so-called prophetic movement’. However, one day, the fire from the LORD will come out from Heaven and devour them and their bizarre actions, dream interpretations, portals, etc., You will see their ministries, pathetics, and Charismatic psychic reading, dream interpretations, and Charismatic fortunetelling die before the LORD. God wants a prophetic people and not a pathetic people.

I have not read Mr. Strom’s article, but am acquainted with his writings from the past. I do agree thought that the Lord is going to reform, and revolutionize the prophetic movement through this younger generation. As a prophetic person who gives corporate words to our church body, and also personal ones at times. I have known for some years now that God was up to a correcting even if only as an undercurrent to the current prophetic movement.
Several years ago, the Lord had begun to “limit” my giving “personal words” to only times when I “really knew or sensed his moving. Even know the other prophetic people in our church were still going ahead “by faith”. Though i do know that all we do is by faith. By the corrective, stronger, encouraging, yet also rebuking words were coming about by a greater annointing. At the same time I was continuing to see other prophetic people leaning toward the financial reward aspect.
During this time both of my sons, spiritual eyes were open to the reality of the kingdom that was moving all about us. The Holy Spirit, Angels, etc. and there really started to be a seperating into a purer stream of the Lord moving by His Spirit upon people. I do without a shadow of a doubt believe that thw Western Church is about to gte a real wake up call in this area, a judgement, a seperation, a revolution call it what you may. Because God wants the church/bride to be triumphant, and I know that we are about to see repeat of the Jesus Movement again, and a deeper level of Christianity that we have not seen for a generation. And the leaders of the movemnet will be the turned off younger Christians definitely uinder 40 years old, but more focused on those who are 30 and younger.

I have become weary of the prophets who each seem to have an ax to grind, or a happy ending or a new revelation, none of which have anything to do with God, and much to do with their own situation or the situations of those they wish to promote. I find that if I use the Word of God as a measuring rod, that there are actually precious few true prophets.
I will not call myself a prophet. I have been called upon by The Lord to give messages to His Church which were a call to repentance, and the consequences if the call was not heeded. I have been called upon to give messages of encouragement and reminders of what needs to be done. I have never given a message of personal triumph and wonderful success in ministry.
It may well be that the Lord is calling people within a certain age frame to be prophets. I dont know. But with deception running rampant through the church these last days, I can only use the Word as my Guide. I wont use age, fame, or charisma. I pray the Lord Jesus will be our only inspiration.

I was just going to blog about this, but you beat me to it. I may still do so since Strom’s backpedaling–for all the right reasons, I might add–is notable in what has become a frenzy of sound and fury signifying nothing. The modern prophetic movement as it stands today is totally bankrupt. To say that we have whole hosts of people dedicated to it simply because they can’t stop the itching in their ears is a mild assessment.

    Blessings.

Well – thanks for the article Mr. Strom. I was saved in 2000 and the church were God brought me at the time was struggling with the issues mentioned. We were associated with a church which was (and still is) heavily into the prophetic movement. We had some in leadership who were drawn to it – Holy Spirit Power – “come Holy Spirit – more Holy Spirit” – people with uncontrollable laughter – people running around the building screaming and yelling – quaking and shaking – groaning loudly as if in pain – passing out – dream interpretation – and more than I can recount here. I called it “People bouncing off the walls”. It was all very confusing for me as a new believer. I would always end up sitting in the back praying to God about what I was seeing taking place in front of me – asking Jesus for guidance. I always felt the Spirit say to me – “You don’t have to do that… just sit here and pray… read the word”. So that is what I did. Now to be fair – not all the events were as ‘disturbing’. On several occasions there was excellent biblical teaching and people came to Christ – there were Christ lovers ministering to people – God seemed to be present and working through people and changing lives. And I have been to conferences and seen in my own church what can happen when God moves in people – strange things can happen – we believe in the gifts of the Spirit and practice them. But there is a difference between those times and what is being discussed by Strom. The last straw for me was when I was convinced to go see Jill Austin speak… as soon as she began I knew it was just not right and I had had it – I felt it in my gut – which I have learned is how the Spirit speaks to me on many occasions. The way she was ‘invoking’ the ‘spirit’ – and the things she was saying and doing – “More… more power… more spirit… more… more…” while waving her-hands over people – touching people – and watching as they keeled over – began o laugh or sob uncontrollably – and all sorts of other manifestations. And as mentioned in the article – obvious peer pressure to act or ‘perform’ in a certain way… fall over when touched… burst out in tongues… shake and quake… whatever. I could see that people were doing these things to fit in – be part of it – or worse – actually influenced by evil spirits.

These things created some fallout in our church – some left the congregation over it. At this time the connections with this movement have been lessened if not cut – we no longer set up conferences with them – nor are there regular trips to their church to hear visiting speakers as there was for several years. But it is still a lingering problem, and I have to be careful sometimes what I say regarding these issues because of the conflict it can bring – not that I hold back really – but there are times to hold the tongue. The good news is that I have total trust in Jesus – and I do not fear these things. We have had a bumpy road but I trust God’s plan for us and it has not lessened my love for the church.

    Dear Saints,
I have a great deal to say. I have not read the article, but I have read several things written by Andrew. Many of His insights are helpful. Many are not. I am one of those Holy Spirit ‘manifestation’ people. If you know them by their fruits, my life and many of those whom I call brothers and sisters are bearing much fruit. How do you point to someone like Heidi Baker and call her deceived? I met her in Toronto at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship and have a friend who has gone to Mozambique to help in the orphanages. If you can look at someone like her, whom signs and wonders follow, not to mention the many saved, fed and sheltered because of the love of Christ, which, being shed abroad in her heart during a TACF conference, than you are the one deceived I fear. Her fruit is evident for all to see. All I have is my testimony. If it were not for the power of the Holy Spirit rattling my cage, I’d still be in it. I have met a false prophet, and yes, the angel of light is difficult to discern, but when one loves the Truth, more than life itself, He will reveal Himself to you and expose the enemy if you hang tight and do not jump to conclusions. He has healed my heart of many wounds that have kept me bound for years.

The problem with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is, that is looks SO good, for making one wise. In becoming wise, we are the greatest of fools and reject the Giver of Life.

Im thankful that God has stirred hearts to speak out against the false teachings in the church. To many people will not speak out and just give a pass to the crazy things taking place in the church. Im thankful to be preaching with Andrew at the John the Baptist meetings this year and to be apart of a movement that is teaching true new testament christianity. Jesus is the example of ministry that should be taught. Jesus was not flashy or rich He lived among the people and taught among the people. Jesus took care of the people he didnt build for himself but for the Kingdom. Today many stand and proclaim they are speaking for him but thier actions and lifestyles preach another message. I ask you this if on the earth today would Jesus approve of what we find in alot of our churches? Would he be happy with ministers building million dollar churches while people go hungry? Would Jesus be impressed with the TV preachers nice cars houses and lavish lifestyles? Would he say job well done or turn over thier money tables? You see why so much false teaching and craziness is allowed in the church by so many leaders is it appeals to the flesh and it pushes back the true Gospel which is far from popular. Be ye steadfast and prepare the way for the Lord! Compramise is poision that slowly kills.

Katherine Wells Anderson (see above) believes that the “fruit” manifested by ‘Toronto” disciples, is the evidence that this move, is of God. Muslims practice alms and good deeds, even corrupt governments are capable of kind actions. I know of non-christians giving there lives to people less fortunate than themselves, for no personal gain. A person going to Mozambique to do “good works”, is not evidence that the Toronto manisfestations are of God. The holy scriptures which our God has provided us in conjunction with the Holy Ghost is the only test for a so called move of God. To obey is better than sacrifice.
