The Restlessness

21 December 2004 No Comment

We travel on the road to adventure
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
Like lovers and heroes, and the restless part of everyone
We’re only at home when we’re on the run
On the run……

These lyrics, taken from the Rush song “Dreamline” have really spoken to me as of late. The restlessness of the awaiting and preparation for a move of God to come upon my life in the midst of a 3 AM Spirituality. However, I have to ask myself why I start running when the tenderness of God is unveiled.

Maybe because I have a hard time seeing God as a tender and compassionate being who loves his children. In the realm of light seeing God as a perfectionistic person whose determination of love or hate depended on if you sinned that day or if you disagreed with the pastor who was more than ready to send me to hell at the first mistake, it is hard believing. It is hard seeing grace when every mistake you ever made had huge consequences and people brought your mistakes made years ago back up as a reason why something of the present does not deserve to be given to you. It makes me wonder if God wants a church of his children or wants perfect people. We speak of a spotless bride. We claim “revival” (no such thing in the New Testament) will not come because someone has ’secret sin’.

What does ‘perfecting of the Saints’ really mean? Perfect people? I really do not know….
