Dying For Who, What, and Why

Diane over at Crossroads has an excellent post entitled Offended that asks a very important question:

Take the Christians in some third world countires such as China, Vietnam and Sudan for instance. What are they being killed and tortured for?

Are they dying for the purpose-driven life? Are they dying because they wish to dialog and respect other religions which probably “have some good things to teach us?” Are they dying for the “prosperity gospel?”

Diane answers the question with:

No, they are being killed because as Jesus Himself said,
“And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”
(Matt. 11:6Open Link in New Window).

Very astute answer. To answer Diane’s final question, the apostle Paul was onto something. Paul was showing us that the unsaved cultures saw Christ as a hindrance to what they truly believed and truly wanted and also as foolishness that did not make sense to the natural mind.

We see the same thing today in the world. World religions that see Christ as a hindrance to their own selfish agendas and secular humanists who see Christ as foolishness in the realm of their human reasoning.

We know who the world religions and secular humanists are dying for. However, the most important question for us to ask to ourself is:

If we had to die for our belief, do they know

  • Who Jesus is?
  • What the Gospel of Christ consists of?
  • Why we are not renouncing Christ and choose to accept the final fate even if it leads to death?
