The Pretender Church

16 July 2005 One Comment

The last verse of “The Pretender” by Jackson Browne:

I’m going to be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
Thought true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender

Sounds alot like the church of today. To quote the very last line of the song that is repeated over and over again:

Say a prayer for the pretender

We need a prayer. No wait, we need more than a prayer. We need a divine intervention to turn the prentender church believing they are ‘God’s Giants’ into the contending church to earnestly contend for the faith.

Who wants to go around deceived, thinking they are a giant, particularly when all evidence points to the contrary? Goodness gracious, not me.
