It has now come out per this Atlanta Journal-Constitution article that Ashley Smith gave alleged gunman Brian Nichols drugs on the night he held her captive and per the article “she refused to take the drug with him”.
Based on the semantics of that sentence, this means that Brian Nichols did partake of the crystal meth during the time he had Ms. Smith captive. This now raises a very critical question to the entire story that was bragged about all over television hours after the capture was over of how The Purpose-Driven Life supposedly worked all these miracles. Was it the PDL or was it the fact that she had drugs and she freely gave them away that helped save her life? Was it PDL and/or a combination of being high on crystal meth that supposedly caused Nichols to receive salvation?
It even raises more questions and dire concerns that possession of crystal meth is a felony in most every state in America and that Ms. Smith could have gone to jail for possession of crystal meth and in some extreme cases been treated as a source and lost her possessions. The pragmatist will overlook these facts and claim that since the ends justifies the means and everything turned out ok that this is something that needs to be ignored.
To this I disagree. We get very upset when drugs are pushed in the schoolyard and sold on the corners in front of our houses. Is this really any different? Most addicts of any substance that are trying to get free usually take a proactive measure by not having the substances in their possession. Why were the drugs there? Where did she get them from? What inner torment was trying to get her to take the drugs again?
I’m not trying to be hard on Ms. Smith nor am I trying to find little holes to pick through and blow out of proportion. If she really is trying to break free from drug addiction, I pray that she does get free either through treatment or through a supernatural deliverance.
I just feel like we now have to question again the pragmatic means the PDL crowd has used to attempt to justify the correctness of the book when it has now came out that there was ‘another influence’.

What did all of this bring in the final outcome? It turns out that Brian Nichols is now according to this article a recent convert to Islam. A little leaven leaventh the whole lump and the little impure attempt leavened the walk of a man who has now rejected the truth for Islam.
