Getting Something Else Out of The Sermon
As my pastor was preaching about Peter getting out of the boat in John 21:1-14 this morning, I noticed something else in the text, verses 8 and 9….
Verses 8 and 9 reads:
But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.
In one way, this is ironic since the disciples had just caught a ton of fish in their nets. However, it shows something about Jesus that exists even when we try to do things through our own human efforts.
Provision.
Even though the disciples went fishing and came to the shore at the request of Jesus, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. The fire was made, the fish was being cooked, and the bread was present. The disciples were weary and Jesus ministered to them.
However, they were weary because they went out and performed worthwhile labor and honest dilligence in the work ethic. Jesus wanted to see the fish and eat of some of the fish that they caught. Jesus is very interested in the actons of the work ethic and the honest dilligence in performing the work.
Then they fellowshipped.
