However, is something similar happening in the Ameican seeker-sensitive church today?
Studio 54 paralleled to the seeker sensitive church.
Hedonistic and debaucherous behavior paralled to the lifestyle of the purpose-driven Christian.
The Steve Rubell selection committee paralled to the church culture exclusiveness
The high of the drugs paralled to the ‘estascy’ church members feel after the pep rally of worship.
The prohibited areas of the nightclub paralled to the prohibited areas of church laity and polity.
The celebrities given carte blanche treatment paralled to ministers being viewed and treated as celebrities.
Studio 54 employees doing ‘favors’ for the celebrities paralled to church people who ‘do favors’ for the leaders turned ‘Christian celebrities’.
Studio 54 was ‘the scene’ while it lasted much like the seeker-sensitive church appears to be ‘the scene’ within many local cities. However, the nightclub came to a mighty end starting in late 1979 when authorities came down on the owners and charged them with skimming money. It lasted until the one final party, called “The End of Modern-day Gomorrah”, happened on February 4, 1980.
It is ironic how the last party at Studio 54 was refereed to as Gomorrah, a place that God destroyed because of the debauchery that happened there. If the seeker-sensitive church (aka Church 54) doesn’t wake up and turn from their debauchery of marketing God and exalting their success as their idol, God is going to come down pretty hard on the church (especially their leaders) much like the authorities came down on the owners of Studio 54. I’ll tell you this, when God comes down and moves to shut down the ‘party’, it will not be a party. It will be a spectacle and confirmation of what’s going to shake will shake and what doesn’t shake will remain.
God have mercy on us….
