The Next Christian Megatrend

From what I am seeing, it appears to be:

Church Discipline / Excommunication

I am seeing more web pages, personal e-mails to my e-mail box advertising books relating to, and more people crying out for this to happen. Yes, Some people out there believe that not enough of it ever happens anymore and blame it on the church-growth movement having a mentality of we need numbers and church discipline means lost numbers which equates to lost money. I really wonder if some of the extremists who push this cause are people who do see some hyprocricy, but have been gross victims of injustice at some point and therefore have a love to see people punished not to correct them, but to bolster their already low self-esteem or to mentally punish the ones who wronged them in reenactment of a dream they desperately want to see become reality?

What is going to happen next? Is some Christian bigwig going to create a ‘global database’ logging in names of people who have been ‘disciplined or excommunicated’ (providing their denomination agrees to supply the information) by a church that can be accessed by a potential future church for a small monthly fee?

Worse yet will be what will be the true reasons for the new-fangled Church discipline? Outright Heresy or disagreement with the church’s participation with the 40 Days of Purpose? Denying Jesus Christ or voting Democrat? Standing up against false doctrine or disagreeing with a pastor who views disagreement as ‘touching God’s anointing’? Are people going to be punished for not being perfect? Are people going to be punished for not participating in unanimiy instead of unity?

Could you ever imagine such a scenerio? Could you imagine the shock if a family leaves because they no longer feel comfortable in attending and when they go to join a new church, the old church submitted to the database that they were ‘accusers of the brethren’ or worse yet a scenerio such as ‘they left on the 15th but their tithes are only paid up until the first”? Can you imagine the hurt, abuse, lies, pain and suffering this may cause if someone decided to do this ‘in God’s name’?

If this becomes a new Christian megatrend and is not handled correctly, this has a possibility to cause as much if not more damage than the Shepherding movement did

Call me crazy!!! But don’t laugh, I bet you someone is already in the planning stages to try to create such a unified database network thinking that he is ‘doing God’s job’ .

I hate to scare you …

But the Catholic Church has already begun this. How long before we see the Protestant version?

How about “Writing Science Fiction and/or Fantasy”? Or “Writing Horror”? Doubting pre-Trib Rapture scares from Hal Lindsay to Left Behind? Having any doubts about Young Earth Creationism?

Sounds very familiar, except this ‘global database’ isn’t in Brussels. And is Fully Christian (TM).

And no one could buy or sell (or be welcomed into a new church) unless they had The Mark…

So what’s your opinion of “Pretrib Rapture Diehards” and “Thomas Ice (Bloopers)” on Google?
