The Turning Around, Part Sixteen

23 July 2006 One Comment

Another crucial meeting of “The Turning Around” at ‘the church’ took place tonight. The church started off singing a couple of the choruses and then proceeded into prayer for the Pastoral Search Committee, the meeting, some personal prayer requests, etc. After the prayer, several issues were addressed in reference to the Pastoral Search Committee, feedback from the last congregational meeting, updates on processes implemented, etc.

The same announcement of the Pastoral Search Committee read earlier today (and discussed in part Fifteen) was read again for those who missed it earlier that morning.

The reasons why the elders decided not to pursue at this time the proposed changes brought forth by the Christian Education Committee in reference to adjusting Sunday Services and Christian Education times was explained in further detail. Furthermore, it was clarified that the proposal was not closed, but being held for reconsideration / slight modifications once the new Senior Pastor is assimiliated.

Christian Education was brought up in specific detail as to the scheduled curriculum. One thing in particular was that a new children’s curriculum (the name was four words, started with a “G” and I did not have enough time to write it down plus I had never heard of it before) was going to be implemented where the entire Bible would be gone through in a four year cycle with every quarter alternating between Old and New Testament. It was also heavily emphasized that this curriculum was geared towards instilling doctrine and that this particular curriculum made it easier to transition children to the next year’s teachings when promoted to older age groups because all age groups would have their lessons from the same place within the Bible geared by age group. There was concern mentioned that some past curriculums turned out to be more ‘fluff’ where the children learned more about having fun than the doctrinal principle the lesson taught and that the children needed to be better prepared for peer pressure and adulthood.

It was also announced that in the fall, the members and frequent attendees would receive surveys in reference to Adult Christian Education.

The progress of

a new system of keeping up with church members and classified ‘frequent attendees in good standing’. This would be done by taking the number of members / frequent attendees in good standing and dividing them amongst the elders to where each elder would be responsible for calling and conversing with that member / frequent attendee to see if their needs were being met and if not, help the person get their needs met. Within that same system, each elder would contain within that group of people at least another elder, one deacon, and one staff member to minister/assist to.

mentioned in part thirteen was addressed. Frustration at the time taking to implement was slower than expected was discussed but not to worry because it is being implemeted, albeit very slowly.

The various committees were discussed and the congregation was encouraged to contact an elder responsible for the committee if there was an interest in serving on a committee.

I just re-read this and wanted to comment–it is absolutely wonderful that your church’s leadership is keeping the people informed about all of the changes and decisions being made. The level of openess is a rarity in most churches nowadays.
