When you read books (fiction or non-fiction) about people in times long ago, do we see them in the constant 24/7 state of praise, worship, reading their Bibles, mentioning Jesus, etc?

No, this is not a ripoff of the 4-H club. However, it is the subject of an excellent article I was made aware of from a man named Rodney Olsen entitled Why Do Men Hate Church that referenced both an article from Sydney Anglicans (worth reading) and a mp3 clip (worth downloading) that talked about this stuff in a perspective different from John Eldredge and David Murrow.
Now if we can find the delicate balance between the dude-ranch discipleship and the feminized-man fraternities.

When I was young, I would watch on Saturday afternoons the show American Bandstand hosted by America’s youngest teenager by the name of Dick Clark. The show (based in Los Angeles) would feature all of these really cool looking people (now I watch the reruns out of nostalgia and think, these people are dorks) dancing to the latest songs on the Top 40. If you are very familiar with the video entitled “MeChurch and how it takes a look at the seeker-sensitive phenomenon such as customized start times, no rebukes for crying babies, oil change during service, and gifts to show up on Sunday morning, I’m afraid that one of the tactics has now hit a church in my hometown.
