Deep Calls Unto Deep Part 3

Throughout the past month, I have been studying the verse of ‘deep calls unto deep’ and have shared some insights here and here on what I have been experiencing.

I have still experienced many nights the awakening somewhere between 2 and 3 AM with some of those instances waking up and realizing that deep within me, I have been praying.

What really encouraged me this morning was that the sermon at church today was based on Luke 5:1-11Open Link in New Window.. I know this is a long way from the Psalm 42:7Open Link in New Window verse but the pastor concentrated especially on Luke 5:4-6Open Link in New Window which states:

When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

I got home and looked up the Greek for the word ‘deep’ which is ‘bathos’ which means “mystery” per Strong’s Concordance. I thought about this and realized that in many areas spiritually, I have been both shallow and very analytical where I got tired of the complex complex and the unknown turning into bizarre kookiness. It was there I did the 180 and went in the opposite direction.

I got the message loud and clear……………………
Time to go out again into the mysterious (but better and more firmly rooted) and cast the net…..
I just need to know how much deeper and when to cast the net.

  1. sweeeet reflection and new insight into more depth of the deep… love it… I’m off to reflect on the depth of the deeper deep… and to consider it with the sometimes shallow wading pool I confine myself to in certain areas of my walk with God…

    thanks for the sharing this..

  2. In many areas, I feel like Simon Peter where i toiled all night long (more like years and years) and feel as if I reaped nothing.

That was what appeared to be very mysterious and baffling to me and not the fact that the word ‘deep’ in the Luke text meant ‘mystery’. ‘Launch out into the mystery’ and let down your nets for a catch.
