Perrier At Ambient Room Temperature Required
Yes, according to J. Lee Grady’s latest article Fire in my Bones – The Deadly Virus of Celebrity Christianity, that was one of the demands (and the least costly one in his list) that a prominent female preacher stated that it had to be met in order to book a speaking engagement with that person.
This is nothing when compared to the rest of her demands. In fact, it is nothing when compared to the pastor who, at a major charismatic conference, announced that the guest speaker was “more than an apostle.†and asked everyone to bow down to the person, claiming that this posture was necessary to release God’s power when he stated. “This is the only way you can receive this kind of anointing!â€.
One would have thought that the televangelist scandal of 1987 would have helped put an end to the prosperity gospel and put an end to the ‘infomercial’ mentality of the Gospel presentation. However, it appears that the televangelists did not take heed and reform. It appears that they learned a lesson in how to use their lawyers to review the legal proceedings of the Bakker trial, find out where the Bakkers went wrong to avoid that mistake, and then find the loopholes to where they could strut more bombastically and arrogantly scoff our legal system and 501c3 rules and take Christians for granted with the ‘trinitarian terror threats’ to those who disagree and speak out.
It’s time we know the names. It’s time we see the churches who get the excessive demands / contracts in writing and balk at the demands scan them (unsigned) into .pdf and place the .pdf on their web pages to be viewed/downloaded. It’s time that people who do attend these crusades and conferences go to their blogs and their favorite forums and report on this stuff as soon as possible.

Something is in the air. That prominent female preacher sounds like the same person one of my seminary profs complained about during a lecture a couple of years ago. I thought, “Is this for real?” Then I remembered an encounter I had with a friend who works for one of our pastors. She told me that when this unnamed female minister arrived, she demanded some of the same things I saw on the list Grady gave as well as a masseuse.
I know of some ministers who require an honorarium so high that it cuts out ministering to smaller churches with little money. Disgusting.
I too am ready for names to be named. But even worse for these folks: if they don’t check themselves, God Himself will start namin’ names and that won’t be cute. Peace out!
T2T:
I believe that you are too late when you want churches who receive these frivolous contracts to reveal them.
In a church where I once attended, the church tried to bring in a prominent Christian speaker for a weekend retreat. Before negotiations could begin, the church was asked by the Christian speaker’s ministry group to sign a ‘pre-negotiation waiver’ stating that the terms of the contract whether agreed and signed by both parties or rejected by the church and no contract signed will not be revealed.
Sounds like the lawyers are running the churches and not God.
Somebody ought to leak these Christian Celebrity Riders to http://www.thesmokinggun.com. They have a whole section of “riders” detailing the extravagant nitpicking in Celebrity Appearance Contracts.

Repeat after me, this verse from Acts:
“The voice of a god, not of a man!
The voice of a god, not of a man!
The voice of a god, not of a man!”
