(I Wonder if Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber are saved??? ...)

Well, one of my contacts in Kentucky said he once heard weird preaching claiming/denouncing "Bob the Tomato Is A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing!!!" (So even Veggietales have a fatwa called on them...)

I don't know the context, but he grouped it with "God WILL Make You Rich!" and "Pin-the-Tail-on-The-Antichrist". I file it under the "Aslan-IS-The-Antichrist" school of denunciation preaching.

And after this kind of crap, they expect those outside the four walls of their church to welcome their "witnessing" and want to become One of Them? (Or if they're Dominionists, take over and make them One of Us by force?)

Dominionism: "Just like Citizen Robespierre's Republique of Perfect Virtue, except CHRISTIAN!"

"They preached the Word and not the government. The church was the church and the state was the state."

I wish we could get back to just being the church! Too many are trying to mix the two and create this Christian dominionism over the world. It's like we thought we needed to make Jesus and his gospel more palatable, more unoffensive, more easy to understand so the world would accept it. Now we have a lot of people claiming Christ as Lord but not knowing the first thing about what that really means. It's sad. I can't understand why people think Christ was wrong when He said that if we stood for him the world would hate us and persecute us just as it did to Him. Where is that unclear??? These people act like our goal is to get the world to like us instead of getting the world to realize they are sinners on their way to hell for eternity unless they see the grace of God and believe through faith and repent! They won't ever see that with this postmodern, lukewarm, watered down, unoffensive, psycho-babble garbage that most people are calling the gospel!!!

"We need to change by crucifying this flesh daily and take up our cross to war against our filthy rotten stinking flesh. That is the only change we are expected to see manifest."

This is what it truly boils down to. I remember when my wife and I were having marital problems. We went to our pastor for some counseling. He asked me what I thought the problem in the marriage was. I replied, "Well, she does this" or "She doesn't do that". After a while he said my focus was wrong. He said you are looking at her and trying to change her so she is acceptable to you. He said I should not focus on her but focus on my shortcomings and let God work on hers through her. It's the same idea here. I see a lot wrong with the world. I can't fix it. So instead of trying to I should be worried if I am doing the Lord's will in my own life and let Him deal with the other stuff.

Thanks for this post. It challenged me and spoke a lot of truth. I'm sure there will be those who disagree, but that will usually happen no matter what the topic is.

PJ:

Thanks for your thoughts, linkback, and encouraging comments. I had completely forgot about the 'salt and light' verses of Matthew 5:13-16.

"“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

The scripture clearly tells us to let the light shine and not put it under a basket.

Ever notice that when you turn on a light in the daytime, you do not really notice that it is there. However at night, not only do you see the light, but you can see the source of the light a whole lot better. The darker it is, the more evident is the direction and location of the light source.

It seems that Christians cover up their light source to where no one can see the light.

Best article i've read in a loooong time, if ever.

This summed it up for me:

"Because society was never designed to be changed to begin with."

We as Christians were never commissioned to be 'change agents' but salt.

Christianity cannot be legislated nor can morality.

Many of us spend more time [and money] trying to change a Nation [or even the world] to be like us, think like us, and live by biblical standards through legislation and/or the voting booth, then we do by preaching the Gospel.

God bless and thanks for a wonderful read!
