Trying To Catch Up

I am sorry that I have not responded to e-mails and comments in a reasonable amount of time.

My computer crashed Tuesday when a RAM memory stick died which forced me to go into ‘limp mode’ with low memory. I was at that time only answering e-mails from my family until new memory sticks arrived Friday and I installed them.

After determining the failure, I went on the Internet and after unsuccessfully trying to find and price memory on Best Worst Buy’s and Circuit City’s Pity’s web pages, I got into the vehicle with the RAM stick information and motherboard information per my computer manual and drove out to the local Best Worst Buy and Circuit City Pity stores.

Best Worst Buy: I couldn’t find the actual memory per the motherboard and computer manual specifications on their shelf. One of the Geek Squad guys came to help me and went to a computer that had web access to non Best Worst Buy web page and tried to convince me that a memory stick that was not listed as acceptable per the motherboard and computer manual specifications would work. I passed and then we saw in another section memory made by “Corsair” that would ‘declock’ down if needed. I had never heard of Corsair and decided to do a wait and see approach and instead went to

Circuit City Pity: The same thing happened there as I could not find the actual memory per the motherboard and computer manual specifications on their shelf. In fact, the only memory on their shelf was camera and high-grade printer buffer memory. I went and found the first employee and asked her where were the internal RAM memory sticks at. She took me first to the USB memory sticks and after I corrected her, then she took me to the same section where the camera and high-grade printer buffer memory was. I had to tell her that this was not desktop / laptop computer memory. She went into blond-moment mode and told me that she didn’t know so she found another employee who told her that internal laptop / desktop memory was only available in the Firedog section.

So I went over there to the Firedog section where some nineteen year old bald guy with multiple dangling earrings in each ear went to a computer that had web access to non Circuit City Pity web page and basically confirmed what I already knew but he was out of stock but wrote down the number and told me that I could get a stick for $99.00 USD online with a credit card shipped out to my house…

I thanked him while internally fuming and drove home…..

I got back online with my limping computer and began researching the old, reliable, and established names of memory such as Kingston and PNY and then went to their individual web pages. Their pages were set up like Auto Zone’s, O’Reilly’s and Advance Auto Parts web page where you gave the type of computer, manufacturer, and model number and then you were given compatible model numbers.

I then took those numbers back to the Best Worst Buy, Circuit City Pity, Office Depot, Office Max, Wal Mart, Staples, and Sam’s Club sites looking for memory. I wrote down all their prices to mull it over while watching television when I turned on the television and saw a commerical for CDW.

I had forgotten about CDW.

So I went to their page and found the memory considerably cheaper and the rest is history. After receiving my memory, I used my borrowed anti-static wrist strap and installed my new memory and I am now back to normal.

I will respond in due time to all my backlogged e-mails and comments.
