Pente Post-Up

28 January 2009 One Comment

In some past articles, I have mentioned the concept of “BAPTISTball” where in some leagues, a slam dunk is considered as ‘pride’ and ‘taunting’. However, I found something even more intriguing…

Basketball Pants…

No, I am not talking about the warmup pants that have the buttons all the way down one side that can be taken off very quickly. I am talking about Basketball pants as part of the official team uniform.

Click here to see what I am talking about.

ESPN / Uni Watch has an actual story about a Pentecostal high school in Virginia where the boys wear pants and also wear a t-shirt underneath their tank top as part of the team uniform. The uniform is based on the verse found in Deuteronomy 22:5 which states:

“A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.

They play in a league where all four teams in the league wear shorts. In fact, the school’s girls team wears medium length skirts and their cheerleaders wear long skirts.

Is this a real Biblical precedent or is this legalism gone wild?

I have heard of some Christian schools that are starting to make the girls basketball teams and the cheerleaders wear the ladies spandex sports girdles before putting on the shorts / cheerleader outfit panty and the men’s basketball team wear the combo boxer/brief underwear before putting on their support cup and shorts.
