What’s with the eerie looking artwork of that lion?

It looks like a crossbreed of Aslan with Hel (Norse goddess of the dead).

I sometimes think that the idea of there even being a “next level” with God is at best a diversion and at worst a deceptive falsehood. -- MessengerBoy

C.S.Lewis has an essay somewhere titled "The Lure of the Inner Ring", about the one-upmanship of belonging to The Group Within A Group Who REALLY Run Everything. The essence of Gnosticism; Our Little Exclusive Club of Enlightened.

Stephen,

I sometimes think that the idea of there even being a "next level" with God is at best a diversion and at worst a deceptive falsehood. What it really does is separate us from each other, because it makes us believe that some of are "more special" than others. I don't think that's the way God planned it. The idea of levels with God smacks of self-righteousness to me.

We need to get this "love thy neighbor" thing down pat before we start launching out into what is called "the deep". For my money, love is the foundation, and the foundation IS the deepest part of the house.

I came up seeing people used that II Kings scripture, where Elisha asked for a double portion of the spirit of Elijah, and people would say "God, give me a double portion of the Holy Ghost", but honestly, I've never even met one person who remotely ACTED like a person who had a double portion of the Holy Ghost.

It's not that God can't do it.

I think it's just that people are unwilling to do what it takes to put themselves in that kind of position.

If a person theoretically had "a double portion of the Holy Ghost", they'd never draw attention to themselves, they'd never prophesy out of order, they'd never run around with a bunch of titles such as Bishop Prophet Pastor Evangelist Doctor Reverend Billy Lee Jones, they would never get offended, they would never hurt others with their words, etc.

I tell Charismatics [about the "double portion"] the same thing I tell Catholics about the Apocrypha:

When I get straightened out with what I already have on my plate, and get it down pat pretty reasonable, then we can look at all the other stuff. I've got so much to master right now, that I'm not worried about next-level Christianity.

MB:

The more I think about what you have said. You are exactly right. The ones who love to push this "double anointing" stuff as a solution to those in suffering are the same ones who tell themselves that "He is more than enough"

astute point

I always wince at this "double" of something theology. Didn't Jesus say if we had faith as big as a mustard seed we could move a mountain. Why do we "double" anything from God? Of course, these are the same folks who say God is "more than enough." It's really pretty funny and sad all at the same time.
