Enough VS Enough

You can also call this A Revival of Happy Meals, part 2

While thinking about Greg Stier’s article A Holy Spirit Happy Meal, I was sent an private e-mail by a good e-friend of mine that had found this article from The Gospel Masquerade blog entitled Leaving the Land of “Never Enough” that discussed in a different realm of light one of my “pet peeves” about the “revival” mindset.

You are never “doing enough” for “revival” to finally show up and you are not “giving enough” for “revival” to happen.

Where Mr. Stier’s article focused more on the not:

pray enough, cry enough, fast enough, wait enough, repent enough, call on His Name enough… “doing enough”

aspects of the revival mindset, this anonymous blogger by the name of “Ariel” is focusing on the not “giving enough” mentality that runs prevalent in the mindset of revival groupies that seems to keep you from reaching the “spiritual pinnacle”, the “spiritual high”, and the “sense of closeness” that keeps you from experiencing “God” (their definition) and what is defined as being “true revival”.

The author used their experiences to describe how many of the people in the “revival mindset” are always wanting more and more of such things as your..

effort, loyalty, dedication, sacrifice, diligence, money, desire/passion, self discipline, performance, focus, giving (of yourself and resources), fasting, hours of prayer, meetings, time, energy, your talents and gifts

After a period of always feeling like it was ‘never enough’, the author finally had an epiphany and realized that:

You don’t have to do more to be loved more and you don’t have to be more to be accepted more.

Why?

The answer is very simple…. Because this person (and myself), after all of these years has finally come to the point of realizing that

Jesus is More Than Enough

He doesn’t need another “mega-fast”. He doesn’t need more than the tithe. He doesn’t need another “repent-a-thon”, “prayer rally”, and another 2 Chronicles 7:14 rally. All he needs from us is our obedience, our adoration and worship, and our going forth to fulfill the Great Commission. “Ariel” said it best when she stated:

It is about coming to a place of where our hearts are at rest and we experience total contentment in our heavenly Father. It requires ceasing from striving. It’s about having hearts and minds grounded in the truth that He loves us and delights in us….simply because we are His. We have inherent value because we were instilled with value when we were created. From the womb, we were given purpose and our purpose will never be realized and fulfilled in a cult or group that defines us and tells us who we are.

“Doing more” in the name of legalism is really sowing and showing discontent towards God and in reality, blaming God claiming indirectly that He hasn’t given us more than enough and all that we need. We already have all the love we need. We already have all the security we need. We already have all the grace we need.

Why do we need another ‘revival’ to get the needs met that are already met by his death at Calvary and his resurrection on that third day? If we instead chose to live in the state of Acts Church, New Testament “vival” of life and go out and fulfill the Great Commission, we would never have to worry about ‘revival’ to the point where we chase the carrot on the stick and never accomplish the goal of ‘freedom’. We would already be walking in the fact that whosoever the Son sets free is free indeed.

—–

I write this post because I have been recently made aware of the fact from articles at Charismamag.com, Polycarp, CBN, and Random Jumbled Thoughts that another ‘revival’ is now coming down the pike. Ever since the disaster known as Lakeland ended a little over a year ago, people have been looking for the next big-time “revival”. And according to these articles, it appears that another Latter Rain type of dominionist mentalities is now coming from IHOP KC.

Same stuff, different names.

Todd Bentley replaced by Mike Bickle
C. Peter Wagner / NAR replaced by Lou Engle
Roy Fields replaced by the IHOP band
Where is ‘ole Bob Jones’ (not the SC B.J.)?

As I see the revival addicts and revival junkies start calling the disagreeing people “accusers of the Brethren”, “Pharisees”, “religious spirits”, “the spirit of Michal”, “Ichabod”, ‘the anti-remnant’, etc. the more and more I hold on the basic tenets that

Sola Scriptura: The Scripture Alone is the Standard
Soli Deo Gloria!: For the Glory of God Alone
Solo Christo!: By Christ’s Work Alone are We Saved
Sola Gratia: Salvation by Grace Alone
Sola Fide: Justification by Faith Alone

and that is all I need…….. It is more than enough!
