I read this article from the SundaySchoolThoughts blog (I get page referrals from this blog and when I go there to figure out where the link came from, I never see my link) where the author reports that Miss Prejean has now received further criticism…

but from a influential organization who has fought the ‘culture war’ and has boycotted numerous consumer goods throughout the years.

Was it over the fact that she did not quote a Bible verse? Was it over the fact that she did not act arrogantly and huffy in the name of righteous indignation? Was it over the fact that she did not tell the audience that real Christians drink Coca Cola?

No

It was over the fact that Miss Prejean participated in the swimsuit competition of the Miss USA pagent wearing a bikini and therefore, that is God’s dealbreaker as to who the real Christians are.

As Neil Peart said in the Rush song “The Color of Right”

You’re so full of what is “right”
You can’t see what is “true”

When I heard about the controversy and watched the clip later on, I had my reservations but as I watched the clip remembering that Miss California was put on the spot in front of a live audience, I thought she did really well by:

(1): Not choking up emotionally over the question.

(2): Not caving into pressure or political correctness.

(3): Not coming across arrogantly like many Christians would have done in the name of righteous indignation.

Carrie handled it all with elegance and grace and showed us the dignity that was needed to be seen. I’m very proud of her. She did more to show true Christian virtue that the past twenty years of boycotts, holding signs on the first Sunday in October, and whining ever accomplished.

I just hope that American Christianity (especially the religious right) after her latest speaking tour, the appearance on the Dove Awards, and appearances on the morning and cable news shows doesn’t ‘use her up’ to try to fulfill their agenda army and ‘dump her’ when she is old news, the chance for the ‘utopia of the theocracy of New Chalcedon’ is diminished, and the next hero / martyr is available to be exploited ‘in the name of God’.
