The sun has set on yesterday and the the sun is rising on today. One looks back on the journey of a spiritual walk and can see the ending that was once fuzzy and impaired as the reality that they are currently experiencing. From the original journey of leaving the river and experiencing the blessing of the Holy Spirit through the wilderness experience that caused one to ponder, question, and ask why were they there, one is now experiencing the fruits of their labors. Whatever lessons were learned, whatever sins that were purged, whatever direction down a straighter and narrower road, and whatever power was obtained through the experiences of the river and wilderness is now getting ready to be placed into action and the skills obtained and spiritual gifts imparted is about to be exercised.
The time of transistion from the wilderness to the ministry is something that is not defined by a specific time frame. Many go through an instant change from the end of the wilderness to the beginning of ministry while others for reasons known only to God, experience a more gradual shift. The shock of the change in environment, spirituality, and anointing that presents itself to the individual can be very suprizing. One may go through the wilderness to prepare for the ministry and make preparations and plans. However, when the day comes and it's time to take the preparations from the wilderness into the ministry harvest, many do wonder and ask God and themselves questions such as:
- Did I prepare enough for the task at hand?
- Will I remember the skills and lessons taught when the 'heat is on'?
- Will I pass or fail in this new endeavor?
- Will God and the ministering angels that showed up in the wilderness be present when I go out into the ministry?
Some may think that these questions are preposterous or are outrageous to ask. However, many ask themselves these questions mentally even though they may never verbally express their true feelings. In fact, to ask these questions verbally may bring rebuke from people citing a 'lack of faith'. However, many have asked the same questions whether it was going from high school to college or from college to the career world. The environment may be different but the questions, fears, and observations are the same.
In the remainder of this article, I will explore and discuss the next step of the life of Jesus. From experiencing the leaving of the river through the wilderness experience and now to the entry into the called ministry, I will show how the past experiences became instrumental in the future ministry Jesus did.
